Hamlet Changes

Now there are two costumes of each Ophelia type. The normal, the mad and the completely crazy so we've had to pull together something similar from stock for the costume parade of Wednesday. Always be prepared for change and know how to compromise and when to say it can't be done.

Hamlet Fittings

Knowing  your schedule is vital for when you are planning your time.Worse comes to work think of your worse case time scanario and work from there. Then any extra time is a bonus.

You need to be so on the ball for fittings. Different options for if something works, knowing the store. It went better than I thought it was going to though. It was really interesting to see the actors in puts on the costumes. trying to keep to the time allocated was challenging as some characters needed more time than others. very happy with how the Ophelia's turned out though. Great things for my management project.

Hamlet Begins

29th April
We looked out more things for Hamlet from the stores. Labelled all the rails and organised them for the fittings at the end of the week. We organised the spare rail as well just leaving us with the shoes to do.
Key points to note already:-

• Write everything down, keep paper on you all the time.
• Make lots of lists of things to do and things that need done by a certain point.
• Keep up to date with things that are ordered or any changes that are made
• KNOW YOUR TIME LINE! Know how much time you have for fittings, alterations, ironing, packing the works then see how many costumes you have. BE PRACTICAL WITH YOUR TIME. 3 HOURS FOR SMALL MAINTENANCE, IRON AND PACK. For this show avoid big alterations like the plague as we have a week do to alterations.
• Label all your shoes.
• KEEP ON TOP OF THINGS!!

Before Easter

Before Easter:-

During my time on Legally Blonde I learned quite a bit. I've realised how hard it is to step away from a show after the hour call. I could only do maintenance, checks in the morning, ironing that's about it. However it really made me realise that we are wardrobe department not laundry, we do fittings and make costumes not dressing as a first priority on shows. However I realised that being back stage to see how to help with quick changes on shows can help, for example magnets, poppers, zips, elastic in shoes etc.

Mangment:-

I'm so nervous about this management because it seems to be going no where because of lack on info. I'm so glad that we have an extension because I don't feel like I have enough to talk about for 1000 words. The only thing I could talk about is at what info I don't have and how it's effected the costumes and time.

Opera:-

It was really nice to see all the costumes together as one unit. I love the style of the design and I can't wait to see it on the stage. It was interesting to see what notes can get done with not long to go and staff shortages. It was interested to see how the period pieces like the flyered trousers and suits got pulled in. It's interesting  to see how the director has final say on designs and look of the show really. The director seemed to be making a lot of big decisions. It's interesting to see how much he was paying attention to the body shapes of his cast and making sure it actually suits them and how they move.

Edwardian Corset

Since we finished the hat project we moved onto corsets. I choice to do a Edwardian corset as I'd never tried to make one of those styles before. I've done 18th Century and Victorian. I love how different corsets create different shapes with the body.



















I picked a beautiful pattern which is called the straight front Edwardian corset. I want to try a later Elizabethan corset and a French corset .

I've enjoyed trying out the techniques that Christine uses when making corsets like how she does the boning, doubling it up. I want a simple corset with a lace top like in the picture above. Means I can wear it outside of my clothes or under clothes.

I printed off  the paper for Hamelet today. I'm disappointed we missed the last meeting as we were on Legally Blonde.I would have prioritised Hamelet as first. I would have liked to have seem how Gillian resolved the problems of costume numbers and makes though from what I can tell from what other people said I would have dealt with it differently.

Hat Making

Loads of new techniques learned today it's been great. Lots of hand sewing and seeing how to make a basic hat. It's so nice and relaxing to be able to take our time with these classes and not have to worry about the shows, just focus on the new skills that we're learning. I'd love to do more of these through the year.

It's great for experimenting like I'm doing with my clouche hat. Having it sit further back on the head and curling at the back. Can't wait to see how it's turning out

Heard Gllina talking about Hamlet and how there getting around the makes that Gabbs wanted. It was interesting to see how she deals with situations like that like suggesting for suits to have as the actors basic blacks instead of tights and a top because it's cheaper. Wouldn't have thought of that before. Finding something similar and just changing them to fit what the designer invasions or getting the designer to see why some things better. It's a very important skill.
